New Form I-9 Edition for 2025: Here’s What Changed

U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) quietly released a revised Form I-9 dated 01/20/25, valid through May 31, 2027.¹ The update tweaks a few labels and privacy language but, crucially, does not invalidate the 08/01/23 editions, which stay good until their printed expiration dates (July 31, 2026 or May 31, 2027).² Below is the need-to-know for HR pros so you can refresh onboarding packets without overhauling your workflow.

What’s New on the 01/20/25 Edition

  • Section 1 checkbox renamed to **“An alien authorized to work.”**³
  • Two List B document descriptions clarified for easier review.³
  • Instructions updated with statutory language and a new DHS Privacy Notice.³
  • E-Verify terminology: the same “alien authorized to work” label now appears in case creation screens (live since April 3, 2025).³
